- Hi all. I thought I'd let the artists amongst us in on an idea I've
- had for making the daunting task of drawing the sprites for Bad Mood
- easier.
-
- The main problem is that for every animation sequence you do, you
- need to draw it from all eight directions (except dying and you can flip
- some frames too). This takes ages by hand and it's difficult to find the
- time.
-
- I've thought that it'd be easier if each sprite was created as a 3D
- model in something like 3D studio, then it could be rendered from all eight
- directions and in all the animation frames really easily.
-
- What I've done so far is to model a basic figure and rendered him
- standing still from all directions. It's possible to use these frame as a
- template and draw over them to make any figure you like. It's significantly
- easier than doing it all by hand, but still involves a fair bit of work.
-
- What I plan to do when I have time is to draw a full set of
- textures for the figure and clothe him before rendering. Then I'll hardly
- have to do any re-touching after the rendering.
-
- The frames should be available from Bertrand soon. I might make the
- 3D Studio files available too sometime if I'm feeling generous, but the
- basic figure is being used elsewhere at the moment, so it won't be yet.
-
- BTW What's happening about the sprite routines? Who needs to do
- what before Things can go into the game? I've long since forgotten about
- all this.
-
- Have another day.
